I want to checkout one of the RPG groups. I’ve been board gaming these past 12 months, but now I want to participate in one of the RPG groups. Is that called an “Encounter”? Do the encounters happen on any other day or night than Wednesday nights? How could I checkout one of the RPG groups without committing to one before seeing what it is about?

Encounters is the old term for the D&D organized play games held at various game stores. I’ll send you an email off-line with some contact information :-)

One way is to visit a game store where an event is going on. You can scope out what is going on, see if it is a group you want to play with. Store host events and so usually know when a consistent group is going to be there.
Second is to use the internet to find a group…
Conventions are also a classic way. At a convention you play what you want and make contacts with other local players. Again – the internet.
